description: From DM Air Force Base to the top of the mountain overlooking Old Tucson Studios. Gates Pass is a long uphill, but nice coming down. For a longer loop head over the top of the mountain and down the other side...if you reall want some hill work, come back up to the top from the west side (Old Tucson Studio side).

description: The stop signs are mark either lights or stop signs. They are not true end points. At the Ranger Station you can fill up on water and use very clean rest rooms. There is a bike specific path to use there. The ride up and down Gates Pass is not for beginners and should not be ridden alone. 6% or higher grades up one side and 7% or better on the other. Rode this in the clockwise direction. Most of the rest of the ride was relatively flat except McCain Loop which has some rollers and some hills to keep up strength training. Recommend testing your brakes and low gears BEFORE starting this ride.

description: This loop takes you over the Tucson mountain range twice (Picture Rocks and Gates Pass. There is a good amount of climbing on this ride and the eastwardly direction over Gates Pass is steep! There are few bike lanes and the road is not overly wide; however, there is not a huge amount of traffic as the west side of the mountain range is pretty rural. This route also passses the Desert Museum and old Tucson for anybody from out of town who wants to hits some tourist sites.
