Bike Ride Description
Mostly rural route loops from Mueller Soccer Park in St. Charles, MO, crosses the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers on the Grafton Ferry, Brussels Ferry, and Golden Eagle Ferry. Visits the following towns: Seeburger, Blase, Portage des Sioux (preceding in MO), Grafton, Chautauqua, Elsah, Lockhaven, Beltrees, Newbern, Dow, McClusky, Otterville, Pere Marquette State Park, Marshall Landing, Dear Plain, Centerville, Brussels, Golden Eagle, and Winneberger (preceding in IL), Kampville, and Seebarger (preceding in MO).
The climbing is nontrivial for some of us.
Be aware of the Ferry schedules before beginning a ride, especially on Sunday. As of October 2007, the Grafton Ferry charges $2 and the Golden Eagle Ferry charges $3 for bicycles. The Brussels Ferry is free.
Plan to be out for 7 or 8 hours, depending on your conditioning, the wind and the whims of the ferry schedules.
