Wells NY Sacandaga River Loop
A nice 8-mile loop out of Wells, NY that could be a family ride - with older children or trail-a-bikes - or a leisurely ride. One-half of the route is on wide shoulders on State Rt 30 (with alt blacktop for a short stretch) going north out of Wells, return is on a quiet blacktop - County Rt 8. The Sacandaga River flows between the two segments. Start and ends at Wells Public Beach on Lake Algonquin, great place for a swim on a hot day. Just on the edge of the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, most of the route is fairly flat and offers nice lake, river, mountain, and farm views. Ride can be extended north on Rt 8 towards Bakers Mills and in about 3 miles north along that additional segment is a short section of gravel to Griffin Gorge and Waterfalls, a pretty sight from the bridge there. - a 12146.8 m activity route in Wells, New York
