TdC 2011 Century - Official
2011 Tour des Chutes Charity Century Ride to benefit St. Charles Cancer Survivorship program and Lance Armstrong Foundation Description: The route uses portions of two proposed state scenic bikeway routes; McKenzie Pass and the Twin Bridges Loop. The course winds its way from Bend to the quiet town of Sisters using mostly low traffic country roads passing large farm areas with some beautiful views of several Cascade Peaks. From Sisters, the route heads up to McKenzie Pass. Although busy at times, this is arguably one of the most beautiful and varied rides in all of Central Oregon. The twisty, narrow, and basically constant climb gains 2170 ft in slightly less than 16 miles. It transitions through stately stands of Ponderosa, mixed Fir, Lodgepole, and finally breaks out into the windswept, moonscape lava fields of McKenzie Pass and the turn around point at Dee Wright Observatory. After a revitalizing curvy descent back to Sisters, the route meanders its way back to the small town of Tumalo using a portion of the second state scenic bikeway Twin Bridges Loop. From there, the route climbs back to Bend and the post ride party at the venue. Special Note. Unfortunately, this route requires using a 2 and 1/2 mile stretch of heavily traveled, relatively small shouldered highway 20. - a 159319.7 m activity route in Bend, Oregon
