Ngutunui Gravel Route
Big hills, with the first climb being on tarseal from the school at Ngutunui to the crossroads at 10.The loop along Pirongia West Road, Okupata and back to the crossroads is mainly gravel. Extreme care should be taken to be weather-wise as the weather up there on those mountinasides can change in a flash even on the warmest days. Take food, plenty of water, and waterproof and warm clothes - it is a long hard and very isolated ride. Beautiful views of the central volcanoes and Mt Taranaki (Egmont) on a clear day. You can also see the west coast and Kawhia harbour and Mt Karioi. \nWARNING! I could not persuade this software to let me complete the route where it re-traces the first section, and goes back down the first hill we came up. That\'s why it describes it as being only 42kms. The ride is really 53kms ! - a 42631.4 m activity route in Oparau, New Zealand
