Sugarloaf Uphill Climb
Running Hillclimb race up the Sugarloaf Maintenance road-Binder ski trail that is held the second weekend of each October. This is a pretty rugged race. Average grade is 19.8% although one of the switchbacks(Chicken Pitch) is well over 30%. If you're not racing and you want to see people suffer go hang out at Chicken pitch. Race Flyer says the total distance is 3 miles, but really it's 2.2 miles although it takes longer than a 5-mile flat race. Fastest time up is 27:05 so expect to suffer for at least that much time but probably closer to an hour. Weather can be hit or miss. Sunshine and warm to rain/sleet/snow. Usually windy. Usually some icy patches along the road near the top. Pretty awesome awards banquet after. Free Beer, need I say more.
